EA to Revolutionize the PC Gaming Experience with the New EA Challenger VR Headset
REDWOOD CITY, Calif. — Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA) today revealed an ambitious new venture into the world of virtual reality with the introduction of the EA Challenger VR headset. This groundbreaking device is set to revolutionize the PC gaming experience for iconic franchises such as Need for Speed™, Star Wars Jedi Survivor, and The Sims™.
The EA Challenger VR, with its launch slated for October 6, 2025, marks EA’s inaugural foray into next-generation gaming hardware, building upon its distinguished history in software and game development. Priced at $399, this venture into VR technology is a bold step toward providing gamers with a more immersive, interactive experience.
“For more than four decades, we’ve dedicated ourselves to crafting extraordinary gaming experiences. With the introduction of the EA Challenger VR, we are embracing the future, leveraging the latest in technology to deliver entertainment that extends beyond traditional gameplay,” said Laura Miele, President of EA Entertainment & Technology. “The EA Challenger VR headset embodies our spirit to challenge the norms and will usher in a new era for gamers and our beloved franchises.”
This announcement follows EA’s successful collaboration with Meta’s Oculus for the F1® franchise in 2022, yet the EA Challenger VR will be first compatible with four of EA’s PC Gaming franchises, including innovative features for an unmatched gaming experience:
- Live in The Sims™: Players will immerse in the life of a Sim, exercising unprecedented control in Build mode where they can craft and customize their surroundings with their own hands.
- Experience the Need for Speed™ thrills: Players can feel the intensity of high-speed racing, delivering the sensation of every turn, drift, and acceleration as if they were in the driver’s seat.
- Become a Jedi with Star Wars Jedi Survivor™: Players can engage in lightsaber battles so realistic they will feel as though they have stepped right into the Star Wars universe.
The name “EA Challenger VR” is inspired by Electronic Arts’ longstanding ethos to “Challenge Everything,” a commitment to innovation and creativity. This VR headset is not merely a new product but a challenge to the conventional gaming experience, offering players the opportunity to step into their favorite games like never before.
